Whether you like him or not, Peter Moore has an undeniable charisma about him. Moore is a man that often captures the limelight, winning the favor and hatred of those who hear him.
With the recent announcement of his stepping down from Microsoft to head closer to home and work as the frontman for EA Sports, we figured it would be a good time to reflect on what Peter Moore has contributed to the industry.
The humble existence of a gym teacher wasn't enough for Moore. His complacency with the simple life was eventually abandoned as he sought more, and he rose to manage a successful sector of Reebok before moving his way into the gaming industry. Moore began his rise to fame during his time at Sega. He served as the leader of Sega's North American branch after working his way up through the company, including a role as the senior vice president where he spear-headed the Dreamcast's marketing campaign—a valuable lesson, if nothing else.
As the company faced rough times with dwindling profits and fleeting hope, Moore helped to push forward the strategy of cross-platform development for Sega, saving what was left of the company rather than running the well completely dry. Though the move remains controversial, Moore helped to salvage what was arguably a dying brand while nobly taking hits from the fans on various issues, such as the cancellation of Shenmue 2.
